It can be used in social studies to map particular events or occurrences that have happened throughout history and show real time images of the locations. The Google Earth download allows the user to use even more features, like the overlaying a map on a historical area. One could use Google Maps when studying the Cold War. The map would should different major events of the Cold War (Korean War, Vietnam, Cuban Missile Crisis, The Six-Day War, the Berlin Wall, and McCarthy Hearings). One could also use Google Maps to show where various battles of the Civil War were fought and provide a brief description.
